What are dampers, capping stations and wiper blade?

Updated: Jan 10

Dampers;

Dampers serve several crucial functions in a printer system;

Their primary purpose is to prevent air bubbles from entering the print head, ensuring a smooth and continuous flow of ink at the correct volume.

Dampers are equipped with screen filters designed to intercept small particles, thereby safeguarding the print head from potential clogs.

Malfunction damper;

When a damper is damaged or reaches the end of its lifespan, it results in a condition which is called 'negative pressure.'

Negative pressure means that the pressure within the damper and the connected line becomes disrupted, causing the ink to flow in the opposite direction and mix with other colors. Similarly, a damaged damper or a tightly screwed lid on ink bottles can also induce backflow, leading to the unintended mixing of ink colors.

When the damper become less effective, it means they requiring a replacement to

sustain efficient printer operation.

Capping station;

purpose is to protect the printhead when it is not in use, and ensures it can pull ink through the system to prime and clean before printing.

Malfunction capping station;

A malfunctioning capping station can result in the production of inconsistent colours, and the cleaning process will be unable to effectively clear the base of the print head, pigment buildup, leading to blockages in the head.

When capping station become less effective, it means it requiring a replacement to

sustain efficient printer operation.

Wiper blade;

The wiper blade purpose is to wipe or clean the base of the printhead.

from remove excess ink, debris, or contaminants from the printhead surface. This ensures that the printhead stays clear and free of any particles that could potentially affect print quality.

Wiper blade is manufactured from a flexible silicon material.

Old or dirty wiper blade;

If the wiper is damaged, replace it; otherwise, clean it with distilled water or a cleaning solution, dry it, and then reinstall it.
